America Recycles Day | BeCause Tees

America Recycles Day

Taking place every year on November 15th, this national initiative offers an important reminder that recycling is critical for our planet. But what exactly is America Recycles Day, also known as National Recycling Day, and how can we all get involved? Let's find out!

What is America Recycles Day?

America Recycles Day is a reminder of the importance of recycling and taking action to reduce our environmental impact. A Keep America Beautiful initiative, this day encourages individuals and communities across the United States to recognize the importance of recycling and to make a difference by embracing both recycling and sustainable living practices.

This day first began in 1994 after 2 employees of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality came up with the idea and took it to the National Recycling Coalition. 40 states took part in the first official America Recycles Day.

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the rate of recycling has increased from less than 7% in 1960 to 32% today.

Clearly, we've come a long way. But there's still a very long way to go.

The Importance of Recycling

Recycling is not just a trend; it's a vital activity. The benefits of recycling are wide-ranging, and include:

  • Helping to conserve valuable natural resources like minerals, water, and timber.
  • Reducing the amount of materials sent to landfills.
  • Creating jobs through the recycling industry.
  • Saving energy.
  • Reducing the burning of fossil fuels.

How You Can Get Involved

Participating in America Recycles Day is easy and can make a significant difference. Here are some ways you can get involved:

1. Organize an Event

Consider hosting a recycling-related event in your community to help reduce litter and improve recycling rates.

2. Recycle Correctly

Learn about local recycling guidelines and make sure you are recycling correctly. Ensure that your waste goes to the appropriate bins.

3. Reduce and Reuse As Much As Possible

Reduce your consumption of disposable items and single-use plastics - check out our ideas for plastic-free school lunches. Find creative ways to reuse materials and extend their lifespan.

4. Buy Recycled Products

Choose products that are made with recycled content. At BeCause Tees, we have styles available that are made with recycled materials, plus we make a donation to ecological nonprofits and plant trees for every order purchased to help you make more sustainable fashion choices.

5. Raise Awareness

Share the importance of recyling with your family and friends, workplace, and local community.

America Recycles Day is an annual reminder of the importance of recycling, but remember that recycling is not just for one day—it's a lifelong commitment that can help protect our planet for generations to come. So, this November 15th, celebrate America Recycles Day by making a difference in your own way and together, we can build a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
